About Bed&Fed

In a nutshell, Bed&Fed is a network of home from home accommodation throughout the UK and Ireland where the Hosts offer kitchen supper, bed and a simple breakfast from £35(€40) per person per night. No single supplements or booking fees, just ‘supper and sleep for cheap!’ - Bed&Fed is great value for money. A Host can be anyone with a spare room who likes cooking and company. It is not like running a full-time B&B because it’s a much easier, more flexible and relaxed way to host: you are not expected to do the cooked breakfast that many B&B owners hate (due to the amount of waste and washing up) and you are making supper for yourself anyway. Bed&Fed exists to promote friendly, affordable accommodation plus home cooking and a ‘real’ travel experience (see Appendix 3). It is an ideal resource for a broad spectrum of people: domestic travellers (from those taking a break in a journey to those taking an actual holiday) plus business people (including companies/institutions/charities without large expense accounts), as well as incoming tourists looking for an authentic, friendly and fun experience. It fulfills a middle market of affordable yet comfortable and characterful places to stay, which are in stark contrast to sterile hotels. 

About the Founder 

Annabella Forbes founded Bed&Fed in early 2010. She has personally dealt with everything relating to the business and has had much to do with developing the website. She was born and educated in Scotland and has a first class degree in English, Anthropology and Art History from Durham University. She also enjoys design, animation, voice-over work, copywrighting and film-making - all of which she has found a use for with Bed&Fed. She lives between Dublin and London. 

Business Model

The Bed&Fed business model (though fully adaptable) is currently as follows: Hosts pay £70 a year to be a member of the network (this not only ensures a certain amount of quality control, but is also cheaper than almost all other quality directories). Guests use the network for free and book directly with the Host. There are no booking fees for either party - an attractive asset which differentiates Bed&Fed from most other networks. Therefore, the Host is free to make as much money as they want after the membership fee is paid. Albeit a niche concept both in terms of the Guest and Host, there is a huge market for this type of accommodation in terms of both domestic travellers and tourists (see Appendices 1&2 for an overview). There is also a Hero scheme whereby affiliates (Heroes) receive 50% commission for each Bed&Fed Host they recruit.
